Like many literary magazines, Deliberately Thirsty began as 'some kind of a stunt' in the Spring of 1998 and folded after only eight issues three years later.
At some point the Editor explained that his aim in producing the magazine was to reclaim Scottish Literature from the opium den and to restore it to its true home, the public bar. In the opening issue he quoted an old Cork nursery rhyme to underline the point but it went largely unnoticed:
'I'm a chemicals man myself' he said
And his voice and his eyes went soft.
'Stick to the Guinness then' I replied
My Beamish held aloft.
Totally lost on anybody who wasn't a child of Cork we suspect.
The production of six issues of the magazine was supported by the Scottish Arts Council.
